Yiza Ekhaya Soup Kitchen

The Yiza Ekhaya Soup Kitchen feeds, cares for and offers a safe place for 250 children in the local community.

Yiza Ekhaya was started to help feed neighbourhood children. Founder, Mickey Winefred Linda, started it from her own home with her own pension money. She’s opened her heart and her home providing a place of safety and care for children who wouldn’t normally have had that.

This is a community in Cape Town which has problems with poverty. According to the most recent census 74% households have a monthly income of R3200 or less. Yiza Ekhaya offers not only a daily wholesome meal but love, humour and the possibility of something else to the children. It gives them another example to follow, a positive role to repeat.

Donations to Yiza Ekhaya go directly to running of the soup kitchen. Funds are spent on ingredients, gas and the essentials that keep it going. You only need to visit to see how resourceful Mickey is with the funds she receives.
